Wibree

Today Wibree isn't just another low power wireless standard - from 12th June 2007 it became part of the Bluetooth SIG family of standards, bringing an ultra low power capability to wireless products. Bluetooth is already the world’s most successful short range radio technology, shipping around two million chipsets every day. The promise that Wibree brings is to increase that shipment rate by another order of magnitude.

To help explain the potential of this new technology EZURiO has produced a series of White Papers explaining the opportunities that Wibree will offer. Its unique ability to cohabit with a Bluetooth radio will ensure that it quickly achieves a critical mass in the market, which in turn will drive a host of applications for personal accessories. These will spawn a new market for service providers, particularly in the healthcare and well-being markets.

For a quick Executive Summary our Wibree FAQ tells you the key facts. To complete your understanding our original White Paper gives a history of the standard's development. You can also listen to a podcast of the Bluetooth SIG talking to Nick Hunn about its potential impact.

Wibree provides the capabilities to develop location based services, personal healthcare devices and eHealth offerings, home automation, energy conservation and remote control. The promise of a robust standard and chipsets in 2008 means that product designers need to start thinking now about how they can use Wibree to transform their product offerings.
