How do I change virtual com port numbers?

Sometimes a virtual com port number needs to be changed, for example when using a tool such as CSR Bluetest that only supports a limited range of com port numbers. Here are a few steps on how to change a virtual comport number:

Go to Windows Device Manager- Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Ports (Com & LPT)

Right click on the desired com port and select properties

Select the Port Settings tab and click on advanced

The com port number can now be modified

Note: You may have to reassign a hidden com port number before you can assign the desired com port number to your device. Please refer to the FAQ on Hidden Com Ports.
