Introduction
This document applies to the following Aurawave firmware:
- v1.3.0, tag
1.3.0-63f2ff1(reported byAT+CGMR)
It describes the Cloud2GND Aurawave AW100 series modules and the Aurawave Audio Framework firmware that runs on them. It gives the hardware features, the interfaces, the electrical and mechanical specifications and the radio characteristics of each variant. It also describes what the firmware does with the hardware: the audio devices, the AT command interface, the firmware update, the button and the LED.
The AT commands are described in the Aurawave AW100 AT Command Specification for the same firmware version.
Terminology
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Auracast™ | Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast that any number of receivers in range can join |
| Aurawave Audio Framework | The Cloud2GND firmware of the AW100. It runs the LE Audio functions and the AT command interface. |
| AT command interface | The serial command interface of the AW100. A host configures and controls the AW100 with it. |
| BAP | Basic Audio Profile, the Bluetooth profile for LE Audio streams, including broadcast |
| BIG | Broadcast Isochronous Group: the set of BISes one Broadcast Source transmits |
| BIS | Broadcast Isochronous Stream: one audio stream within a BIG |
| Broadcast Code | The key of an encrypted broadcast. A receiver needs it to play the broadcast. |
| Broadcast Sink | A device that receives a broadcast and plays it |
| Broadcast Source | A device that transmits a broadcast |
| CAP | Common Audio Profile, the Bluetooth profile that coordinates LE Audio streams |
| Codec | The AK4558 audio converter on the AW100-A, or the LC3 audio coding of LE Audio |
| DFU | Device firmware update. In DFU mode the bootloader takes a new firmware image over USB. |
| I2S | Inter-IC Sound, a serial bus for digital audio |
| LC3 | Low Complexity Communication Codec, the audio codec of LE Audio |
| MCUmgr | The management protocol the bootloader uses to receive firmware images |
| PBP | Public Broadcast Profile, the Bluetooth profile of Auracast broadcasts |
| QSPI | Quad Serial Peripheral Interface |
| SWD | Serial Wire Debug, the programming and debug interface of Arm processors |
| TRS | Tip-ring-sleeve, the 3.5 mm stereo audio connector |
| UART | Universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter, a wired serial port |
| USB CDC | USB Communications Device Class: the serial port of the AW100 over USB |
| USB Audio Class 2 | The USB standard for audio devices that the AW100 follows |
Product Overview
The AW100 is a Bluetooth® LE Audio module for Auracast™ broadcasts. With the Aurawave Audio Framework firmware it works as a Broadcast Source or as a Broadcast Sink. As a source it broadcasts the audio of its USB, analog or I2S input to any number of receivers. As a sink it receives a broadcast and plays it on its USB, analog or I2S output.
A host configures and controls the AW100 with AT commands over USB or over the UART of the 40-pin header. A configuration saved on the AW100 starts by itself at every power-up. The AW100 can therefore work alone once it is set up, or as the LE Audio part of a larger product.
