The Hidden Cost of Piecing Edge AI Together
A common approach to edge AI development is to assemble the system one component at a time:
- A processor module from one vendor
- A wireless module from another
- A carrier board designed in-house
- Security and lifecycle planning added later
This approach can work early on, but problems appears quickly as systems scale. Integration issues surface late, validation cycles stretch, and small changes to one component spread across the entire design. What looks flexible at first often becomes difficult over time.
For edge AI applications, where performance, connectivity, and long-term stability are all critical, this model becomes a liability.
